About The Maddy Institute

The Kenneth L. Maddy Institute was established by a unanimous vote of the California Legislature in 1999 to honor State Senator Ken Maddy, whose 28 years of public service demonstrated the successful application of personal integrity, legislative know-how and bipartisanship to the governance of the State of California.

The Maddy Institute was established to engage, prepare and inspire the next generation of government leaders and civil servants. Activities primarily focus on Citizen Participation, Policy Research and Leadership Training. Leadership Training programs consist primarily of an extensive government intern program for college students throughout the Valley, as well as The Wonderful Public Service Graduate Fellowship.

Since 2001, the Maddy Institute has provided over 300 legislative intern scholarships to students from throughout the San Joaquin Valley. Maddy Institute legislative interns have worked in nearly 30 federal and state legislative offices throughout the Valley, in Sacramento and in Washington, D.C. Maddy Institute alumni are now not only in elected office at the State and local level, but work in a variety of political offices, businesses and non-profit organizations in the Valley.
