Key Milestones

1999:  The Kenneth L. Maddy Institute was established by a unanimous vote of the California Legislature.  (The first and only public policy/public affairs institute to be established by the California Legislature.)

2002:  Became an independent 501(c)3 organization.

2003:  Created the Jim Costa Washington, D.C. Legislative Intern Scholar Program

2004:  Created the Congressman Cal Dooly Leadership Fund

2005:  Produced five-part television documentary on the Valley’s air quality (The Greens of the San Joaquin)

2005:  Began Maddy Associates Speaker Series

2005:  (Through 2011), Consultant – Air Quality Work Group of the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley (included successful lobbying for both State and grant funding to support air quality projects in the Valley)

2006:  Began The Maddy Report, a weekly public affairs tv program

2009:  Began The Maddy Daily, a news aggregator covering public policy issues impacting the San Joaquin Valley

2010:  Created the State Sen. Bob Beverly Sacramento Legislative Intern Scholar Program

2011:  Created the Don Jackson Public Finance Scholarship Fund

2013:  Began The Maddy Report – Valley Views, a weekly public affairs radio program

2013:  Co-created Citizenship Academy: Led civic integration component of comprehensive immigrant integration program and established the Annual Citizenship Academy Naturalization Ceremony

2014:  Began El Informe Maddy, a weekly Spanish-language public affairs TV program

2014:  Created the Wonderful Public Service Graduate Fellowship Program

2018:  Created the State Sen. Dave Cogdill Leadership Fund

2019:  Received the Focus on Efficiency Award at the California Higher Education Collaborative (CHEC) Conference at UCLA

2019:  Became the first public policy/public affairs institute in the nation to operate under the auspices of four major regional universities (California State University campuses at Fresno, Stanislaus and Bakersfield, as well as UC Merced).

2020:  Began pilot legislative intern program with the College of the Sequoias, a community college in Visalia, California.

2020: Produced a set of guidelines and recommendations to help move toward closing the broadband equity gap in the Central Valley of California in collaboration with California State University campuses at Fresno, Stanislaus and Bakersfield, UC Merced and California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF).

2020: Received key funding from the Irvine Foundation, the Central Valley Community Foundation, and the San Joaquin Community Foundation to support The Maddy Daily.

2021: Began pilot legislative intern program supported with individual foundations and donors (Bonner Foundation and Tuolumne County).
